A huge congratulations to Matt Rice!
Matt Rice was officially named as one of six new talents identified for the Lotto Soudal Development Team in 2022.
We’re so proud to see how far Matt has come with his time here at the Australian Cycling Academy and on the ARA Pro Racing Sunshine Coast team and are excited to see how far he can go.
Australian Cycling Academy CEO Matt Wilson congratulated Matt on his selection.
“Matt is a fantastic young talent and the chance for him to continue his development in one of the top teams in the world is a huge opportunity. It’s been and incredibly tough 18 months for all our athletes with most domestic competitions cancelled, but this shows that hard work and professionalism can still put them on the radar of the World Tour teams.”
Matt is a pure sprinter and signed with the Australian Cycling Academy in 2019 where he took two NRS wins, the overall win in the Tour of America’s Dairylands and a stage win in his first UCI tour in China.
Lotto Soudal team manager Kurt Van de Wouwer said that despite minimal racing to prove themselves the four already selected hold a lot of promise for the future.
“2020 and 2021 were very difficult scouting years due to the lack of youth races. Some of the guys didn’t race much but these four have already proven a thing or two.
There is no doubt that their talent will develop even more within our team and I’m sure they will take another step forward. They can already motivate themselves by what riders like Harm Vanhoucke, Florian Vermeersch, Harry Sweeny, Brent Van Moer and many others have done.”
